Better Bodies aim is to improve the lives of those living with pain or other stressors through the Bowen Technique. The Bowen technique addresses the whole body by restoring balance via the autonomic nervous system. Many people live in a constant state of stress & therefore over stimulate the autonomic nervous system into the sympathetic state (fight, flight freeze). Bowen offers a treatment to help ease pain and relax your body.

How it works

Bowen Therapy helps the body to regain parasympathetic dominance (rest, relax & repair). Bowen stimulates the autonomic nervous system and activate the bodies parasympathetic dominance (rest, relax, repair mode) to help the body to heal itself. Bowen continues to work through the body for days after a treatment. Bowtech is a gentle therapy using rolling moves.

Relax

What to expect

Clients often drop into deep relaxation or fall asleep. For some, Bowen is more relaxing than a massage. In a Bowen session there are sets of moves and waiting times between sets of moves to allow the nervous system to adjust. Treatments are performed on a massage table or chair, through light clothing.

How often?

Treatment usually requires 2 - 4 sessions, and regular 'top ups' at 4 - 6 weekly intervals can assist with general wellbeing. If you are new to Bowen Therapy it is best to have the first two appointments within 5 - 10 days of each other. The third 10 - 14 days after the second.

After Treatment

it is best to drink plenty of water, and only partake in gentle exercise for 24 - 48hrs after. We also advise avoiding extremes of hot & cold, as this can shock the body back into fight, flight mode.

Better Bodies respects all other forms of body work and healing. We ask clients to have 4 - 5 days between any other body work treatments and Bowen.

Why choose Bowen?

New injury or condition

Bowen can be effective on new injuries & conditions when treated before becoming chronic. Within this time the body has not had time to compensate.

Chronic condition

Many clients discover Bowen after a condition becomes chronic. With chronic conditions the body often transfers pain to other parts of the body. Bowen treats the body as a whole.

Wellbeing

Bowen can also be a tool for general health and wellbeing. Having 4 - 6 weekly appointments helps the body stay aligned, relaxed & balanced.

Meet Suzanne Clark

I love how Bowen is gentle, yet effective, allowing the body to heal from such an array of issues. I am passionate about Bowen Therapy and truly believe everybody should have Bowen. I experienced the benefits of Bowen first hand to rectify a long standing problem. Many years of recommending the benefits of Bowen to others, inspired me to train in the Bowen technique. I am excited I am in a position to use Bowen to improve the lives of others.

I am a qualified Bowtech Therapist, Dip BT, registered with the New Zealand & Australian Bowen Therapy Associations. I am currently the treasurer for the Bowen Therapy NZ association. I also hold Cert 4 in TFH Kinesiology.

Origins of Bowen Therapy

Tom1.png

Tom Bowen was born in Australia on April 18, 1916. He began to notice that certain moves on the body had particular effects. Not being formally trained in any bodywork modality, Tom, through his own study and practice, developed what is now called the Bowen Technique. With his amazing skills of assessment, he was able to alleviate many people’s problems with very few, relatively gentle, soft tissue manipulations. In the 1950’s Tom began his practice treating workmates and others that had heard of his reputation. He ran an extremely busy clinic, performing about 13,000 treatments a year. An amazing number of clients passed through the clinic and benefited from his technique.
